Egypt, located at the crossroads of Africa and Asia, has a strategic geographical location that makes it one of the key transport and trade hubs in the world. Egypt’s ports play a significant role in international trade, especially due to the Suez Canal, which connects the Mediterranean Sea to the Red Sea. In this article, we will look at Egypt’s main ports, their location and functions.

  1. Port of Alexandria: It is Egypt’s largest and most important port, located on the Mediterranean coast. The Port of Alexandria is the country’s main commercial port, serving a significant portion of exports and imports of goods, including oil, grain, automobiles, and manufactured goods.
  2. Port Said: Located at the northern end of the Suez Canal on the Mediterranean coast. Port Said Port plays a key role in the transit trade through the Suez Canal, serving both cargo and container ships. It is also an important centre for logistics and distribution.

  6. Safaga Port: Located on the Red Sea coast. The Port of Safaga specialises in serving passenger and cargo ships and also plays an important role in the export of phosphate and other minerals.
  7. Mersa Matrouh Port: It is located on the Mediterranean coast. This port serves both fishing and cargo vessels and is an important centre for fishing and regional trade.
