Ports – Eritrea

Eritrea, located on the Red Sea coast of East Africa, has several key ports that play an important role in its economy and international trade. In this article we will look at Eritrea’s main ports, their location and functions.

  1. Port of Massawa: It is the country’s main port located on the Red Sea coast. The Port of Massawa is Eritrea’s main commercial port and handles a significant volume of foreign trade. It handles various types of cargo including containerised and general cargo, petroleum, agricultural products and manufactured goods. The Port of Massawa is also important for exporting and importing goods to neighbouring countries.
  2. Port of Assab (Assab): Located on the southern coast of the Red Sea. The Port of Assab is Eritrea’s second most important port and handles a significant volume of cargo, including oil and petroleum products. It plays a key role in trade with neighbouring countries and supports economic ties in the region.
