Ports – Czech Republic

The Czech Republic, being an inland state, does not have seaports, but has a developed network of river ports located on rivers such as the Vltava and Elbe (Laba). These ports play an important role in the transport of goods and international trade via the waterways connecting the Czech Republic to the North Sea. In this article we will look at the main river ports in the Czech Republic and their functions.

  1. Port of Prague (Port Holešovice): Located in the capital of the Czech Republic, this port is one of the largest river ports in the country. The Port of Prague serves as an important logistical hub, transporting goods and providing connections to other parts of the country and Europe.
  2. Port Melnik: Located at the confluence of the Vltava and Elbe rivers, Port Melnik is an important transport and logistics centre. It handles a variety of cargoes including coal, steel and agricultural products.
  3. Port of Decin: Located on the Elbe River near the German border. The Port of Decin plays a key role in international trade, providing transport of goods between the Czech Republic and Germany, as well as access to the North Sea via the Elbe.
  4. Port of Usti nad Labem: This port is located on the Elbe River and is an important transport hub for the northern part of the Czech Republic. The port of Usti nad Labem provides transshipment of industrial goods and raw materials.
  5. Port Lovosice: Located on the Elbe River, the Port of Lovosice plays an important role in the transport of agricultural products, building materials and industrial goods.
